The Foundation Board members serve an integral role of providing leadership for the Foundation. The members meet high standards, possess impeccable credentials and adhere to a professional code of ethics.

    Jim Wells

    Chair of the Board
    Director of Pharmacy, Warren Memorial Hospital
    representing Warren County

    Jim Wells, a Front Royal resident, is the director of pharmacy at Warren Memorial Hospital, which is part of Valley Health. Wells earned a bachelor's degree from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. In addition to his work, Wells serves as a pharmacy preceptor for Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy at Shenandoah University and is involved with several local organizations, including the Warren County School Board and Front Royal Lions Club. Wells said, "I enjoy serving on the Foundation Board, because it not only allows me to meet many of our supporters and keep them informed of the great things happening at LFCC, but it gives me the opportunity to regularly see through reports and interaction with faculty, staff and, most importantly, students where the funds are going and the change they are making in the students' careers and lives."

    Sarah Yakel, a Fauquier County resident, is vice president of the Fauquier Bank in Warrenton. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional, Yakel works with clients to manage their investment and trust accounts. She also prepares comprehensive financial plans for individuals to address and solve their personal concerns and assist them in meeting their future financial goals. Yakel holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Campbell University in North Carolina. Yakel said, "I enjoy serving on the Foundation Board, because I love supporting local students to achieve a brighter future."

    Robert “Rob” M. Talton is the assistant vice president and financial center manager of Wells Fargo / Wachovia Bank, N.A. He has attended two community colleges and two four-year institutions. Rob is very active in the community and volunteers with the Gideons International (Winchester).
    Rob enjoys spending time with family, sports, music and various community activities.

     

  • Cheryl Thompson-Stacy

    Cheryl Thompson-Stacy

    Dr. Cheryl Thompson-Stacy is the president of LFCC. She began this position in January 2009 after serving as the president of Eastern Shore Community College (ESCC) in Melfa, Va. Before her position at ESCC, Thompson-Stacy served as vice president for academic and student affairs at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. She also held top academic posts at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland and at Jefferson Community College in Steubenville, Ohio. She earned a doctorate in education from the University of Sarasota (now Argosy University) and three degrees from Kent State University: a master of business administration, a master of educational administration and a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

    David Urso, a Strasburg resident, is the new director of development at LFCC and executive director of the LFCC Educational Foundation Inc. Before being named Director of Development, Urso served as Coordinator of student life in the Office of Student Success at LFCC. He graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree in conflict management and holds a master’s degree in educational psychology, also from JMU. He is currently completing doctoral work at Colorado State University.

  • Karen Bucher

    Karen Bucher

    Director of Enrollment Management/Registrar
    representing Frederick County

    Karen Bucher, a Stephens City resident, works at LFCC as the director of enrollment management/registrar. In this position, she oversees the College’s Financial Aid Office, the Admissions and Records Office and the Testing Center. She is also responsible for the implementation of an enrollment management plan, which focuses on increased student recruitment and retention. Bucher began working at LFCC in 2004 as the coordinator of financial aid programs. Bucher holds an associate degree in education and human services from LFCC, a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Shenandoah University and a master’s degree in human services counseling from Liberty University. In addition, Bucher is currently working on her doctorate in community college leadership through Old Dominion University.

  • James “Jim” Cobb

    James “Jim” Cobb

    Retired School Administrator

    Jim Cobb, a Front Royal resident, recently retired after 38 years as an educator in Warren County. During his career, Cobb taught math, served as a guidance director and worked as a supervisor of testing. He graduated from Clarke County High School and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in history from Bridgewater College and master's degree in counseling from James Madison University.

    Mark F. Hyson, a Warrenton resident, is an attorney with Walker Jones, P.C. Hyson holds bachelor's degrees in economics and political science from Virginia Tech and a juris doctorate from the Pennsylvania State University's Dickinson School of Law. Hyson believes that LFCC provides individuals who are willing to work to improve their future with the chance to succeed.

  • Dr. Jeffrey D. Loveland

    Dr. Jeffrey D. Loveland

    Associate Professor, Occupational Therapy Program Director at James Madison University
    representing Shenandoah County

    Jeffrey David Loveland has served as an Associate Professor and the founding program director of the James Madison University Master’s of Occupational Therapy Program since 1997. He received his Bachelor of Science (December 1982) and Master of Science (May 1991) degrees in Occupational Therapy from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. He obtained his doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of St. Augustine (FL) in December 2005. Prior to his position at JMU he was an Assistant Professor at Shenandoah University from 1994-1996.

    Dr. Loveland’s clinical experience as an occupational therapist ranges from adult physical rehabilitation and adult psychosocial rehabilitation to program development and management. He developed the occupational therapy department at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in 1992 and this department has grown and currently remains an important part of the hospital’s rehabilitation services.

    Dr. Loveland has served on the Occupational Therapy Advisory Board of the Virginia Board of Medicine since July 1, 2003, having first been appointed by former governor Mark Warner. He was reappointed in 2007 by then governor Timothy Kaine and has been elected chairperson of this advisory panel the last four years.

    He authored a twice a month newspaper column in the Shenandoah Valley-Herald from 2001-2005 that focused on health and elderly living issues. He has recently coauthored a chapter in the just released fifth edition of the Occupational Therapy Manager on managing change and has had several previous professional publications.

    Dr. Loveland has been very involved in the community of Woodstock through volunteer participation with the Woodstock Lions Club, Shenandoah American Red Cross, Woodstock Edinburg Little League, Shenandoah Soccer League and Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation.

    He is a resident of Woodstock where he lives with his wife Kathryn and sons Brian and Bobby.

  • Marie Firth Murphy

    Marie Firth Murphy

    Retired Executive Director of the Monroe Public Schools Foundation in Washington
    representing Clarke County

    After growing up in Virginia, Marie lived for 30 years in Washington State, raising three daughters there. She recently moved back to Virginia with her husband of a year and a half when he accepted the position of Clarke County Schools Superintendent.

    Marie graduated from Seattle University in accounting and practiced as a CPA for 15 years. Switching careers she worked for the Monroe Public Schools 6 years, first as a Career Counselor, then as the Executive Director of the Monroe Public Schools Foundation.

    Marie is a current member of the Clarke County Rotary and is serving on the Rotary Board of Directors.

    Mark E. Pangle

    Mark Pangle, a member of the Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) and an Accredited Auctioneer of Real Estate (AARE), has worked in the real estate business for 28 years. A Maurertown resident, Pangle has worked as a real estate broker, appraiser and auctioneer for Pangle Real Estate and Auction Company Inc. since 1980. For excellence in his field, Pangle was inducted into the Hall of Fame for The Virginia Association of Auctioneers in 2006 and was awarded Virginia's Outstanding Auctioneer of the Year Award for 2001. Pangle holds an associate degree in general studies from LFCC and a bachelor's degree in political science from James Madison University. Pangle said, "I enjoy serving on the Foundation Board, because it gives you a good feeling to help people who are in need of help and then see them succeed!"

    Judith J. Suddith, a Luray resident, works at LFCC as the office manager of the Luray-Page County Center. Her main responsibility is to oversee the general office operations of the Center to ensure efficient and effective service to students and LFCC employees. Suddith holds an associate degree in media technology from Allegany College of Maryland and a bachelor's degree in communication arts with a specialization in radio, television and film from James Madison University.
