Seeking New Foundation Board Members

About the Foundation

Are you ready for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC)?

The LFCC Educational Foundation Board is seeking new members who are:

  • Connected to the College in some way (graduate, former student, relative of an LFCC graduate or former student, etc.)
  • Influential and respected in the community (with the ability to attract other good people to the Foundation Board and to influence people to give to the Foundation)
  • Passionate about LFCC, community colleges and/or higher education
  • Experts in different professions, including law, estate planning, insurance, real estate, sales, marketing, public relations and fundraising
  • Residents throughout LFCC's service area (counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Warren and the city of Winchester)

Duties of Board Members

Following are the duties of Foundation Board members:

  1. Becoming familiar with the mission, vision, values and programs of the College and Foundation
  2. Making a personal financial contribution to the Foundation on an annual basis.  This contribution will reflect my capacity to give and love for the College
  3. Identifying, cultivating and/or soliciting at least six individuals and/or organizations each year
  4. Serving as an ambassador of the College
  5. Recommending and cultivating prospective Foundation Board members
  6. Assisting in the decision-making process of fiscal matters, goal setting, long-range planning and other matters affecting the operation of the Foundation
  7. Analyzing the mission and goals of the Foundation, setting priorities and assisting in the creation of new programs and projects in which the Foundation can participate
  8. Assisting the College president and/or vice president of college advancement with special projects that may develop throughout the year
  9. Maintaining confidentiality and be discreet
  10. Sharing concerns with the College president, vice president of college advancement and/or Foundation Executive Committee and not others
  11. Attending and/or participating in the annual Appreciation Dinner or one of the Commencement ceremonies; attending other Foundation and College special events as needed
  12. Serving as an active member of at least one Foundation committee
  13. Attending at least four out of six Board meetings per year and more than 50 percent of committee meetings per year
  14. Serving at least one full term (three years for Board members who are not employed at the College and one year for Board members who are employed at the College or attend the College)
  15. Following up with donors and prospects and following through with assigned tasks
