Alfred and the Late Klara Kummli: Servant Leaders

Alfred Kummli came to the United States from Switzerland in 1958 and credits his success in life to the strong educational training he received in his homeland.

Because of these feelings, Mr. Kummli made a commitment to support higher education and help other individuals reach their full potential. Along with his late wife, Klara, the couple has supported Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) financially since 1993.

Over the years, Mr. and Mrs. Kummli have contributed more than $758,000 to the College. Their contributions have helped to fund the Corron Community Development Center, professional development for faculty and staff, campus renovations, equipment and special events. In addition, they established the Kummli Family Scholarship, which is awarded twice a year and assists students who are unable to afford an education.

In addition to monetary support, Mr. Kummli devoted his time and energy to the College by serving on the LFCC Educational Foundation Board from 1993 until 2004. He also assumed a leadership role on the Foundation Board when he served as chairman from 1998 until 1999.

During his professional career as a builder, Mr. Kummli helped develop many communities and neighborhoods by constructing permanent physical structures. Mr. and Mrs. Kummli have assisted similarly in the development of the communities that LFCC serves by donating their time and resources to benefit the individuals who make up these communities.

Thanks to the Kummli family’s support and dedication to the area, a number of Virginia’s cities have thrived — economically, socially and physically. The Kummlis’ philanthropic spirit sets an example for others to follow.
