A fantastic event was held to honor women and raise money for scholarships for single parents attending Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC):

Helen Thomas, former United Press International White House bureau chief, was our keynote speaker. Known as “The First Lady of the Press,” she has covered every president since John F. Kennedy and smashed barriers for female reporters throughout her trailblazing career. The World Almanac has also cited the journalism icon as one of the 25 most influential women in America.

Although LFCC’s tuition is economical at $76.65 per credit hour, finances and personal situations often make it almost impossible for some people to attend LFCC.  Tuition for a full-time student is approximately $1,100 per semester but still too costly for some.  In fact, this past academic year, 96 students who applied for scholarships did not receive them due to a lack of scholarship funds.  How many future doctors, nurses and teachers may be lost because they could not afford to attend LFCC?

We hosted an afternoon that celebrated and inspired women, changed lives and benefitted our community!

This event was made possible through the generous contributions of Bill Holtzman, the Wachovia Foundation, an anonymous donor and others.

Thank you!
