Every spring, Susan Martin, the director of LFCC’s TRIO Student Support Services Program, helps distribute scholarships to students at Millbrook High School in Winchester, Va., who plan to attend the College in the fall.

Samantha Myers was a recipient of one of these scholarships, and her mother approached Martin at the 2005 scholarship ceremony and said, “I want to thank you, because you just gave my daughter a scholarship to go to LFCC. She has had such a difficult year. She was in two car accidents that were not her fault. The recovery expenses were such that, had it not been for the scholarship, she would not have been able to attend college in the fall.”

“I was as touched as her mother was,” Martin said, “because every time the donors provide funds for students to attend LFCC — students who would not otherwise be able to — it makes you aware of all of the potential that is out there.”
