Sarah Nelson (pseudonym)

When Sarah first came to LFCC in 2003, she suffered from anxiety and low self-esteem. Sarah worried about her academic performance and how she would fit in with other students. She was a member of the TRIO Student Support Services Program, which provides personal and academic support services for first-generation, low-income and disabled students.

Sarah took an active role in her education, joining several student organizations, including the Student Government Association, and becoming a student employee and tutor for the TRIO Student Support Services Program. Her increased involvement at LFCC boosted Sarah’s independence and confidence in her academic abilities, helping her successfully graduate from the College in 2005.

Sarah is now pursuing her bachelor’s degree and plans to obtain her master’s degree in education.
