James Thompson (pseudonym)
James Thompson was both excited and apprehensive about enrolling at LFCC. Although attending college was his dream, his visual impairment left James feeling unprepared for college. In high school, his teaching aides assisted him with math and science assignments so heavily that they often nearly completed them for him.
By taking advantage of tutoring through LFCC’s TRIO Student Support Services Program — which provides personal and academic support services for first-generation, low-income and disabled students — James was able to acquire the skills that he was lacking.
This experience led James toward a learning track in education. He is now completing his senior year at a four-year university, where he is working toward his bachelor’s degree in education. James wants to teach other visually impaired students.
