LFCC’s Health Professions Programs
- What items are needed for the College’s Nursing Programs?
-
IV Pump – An IV pump is a medical device that is used to inject fluids and medicine to patients in a variety of healthcare environments. IV pumps are used in ambulances, hospitals and home healthcare settings. Hospital personnel use IV pumps in emergency rooms, intensive care and pediatric units; and operating rooms.
SimMan Scenario Package – SimMan is a patient simulator that mimics human reactions and simulates emergency situations and responses to disease processes that will prepare students for real-life situations in emergency room settings, intensive care unit settings, mental health settings and outpatient care settings. The SimMan scenario package includes preprogrammed surgical and medical scenarios that are installed into the computer inside the SimMan. The scenarios challenge students in a variety of areas, including obtaining vital signs and handling life-threatening complications. The scenario package also contains patient identification bands and data collection forms.
Models and Supplies – Additional anatomical models and laboratory supplies are needed to accommodate the College’s increasing number of human anatomy and physiology laboratory sections (BIO 141 and 142). The items include models of the muscular, nervous and respiratory systems.
- What is needed for LFCC’s Medical Billing and Coding Program?
LFCC’s Medical Billing and Coding Program is seeking funds for certification licensure and professional development for instructors; software and associated maintenance fees; student practice and certification examination fees; and ergonomic keyboards.
- How will these items benefit students and the community?
By securing IV pumps that are the same make and model used by the Winchester Medical Center, students will be able to become proficient with professional medical equipment prior to beginning their hospital clinical assignments, thereby optimizing classroom and hospital instructional time. The SimMan scenario package will help to prepare nursing students for their clinical examinations and to work as professional nurses in the community. The College’s human anatomy and physiology courses are a requirement for several health professions programs. Therefore, the purchasing of equipment and supplies for the laboratory sections will help to increase the number of students enrolled in LFCC’s health professions programs. Certified medical billing and coding professionals are vital to the efficient operation of a variety of healthcare organizations throughout the community.
