Instructional Resources for LFCC Employees
The Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) Educational Foundation Inc. is seeking support for instructional multimedia and eLearning content design and development tools. These tools will provide LFCC employees with the flexibility to create and design course content specific to students’ needs.
- What are the needs of LFCC’s Instructional Technology Office?
- The College is in need of instructional multimedia and eLearning content design and development tools. These tools will allow instructors to develop interactive online courses that will inform and entertain students. Instructors will have the ability to create highly-customized courses that include assessments, demonstrations, games and quizzes.
- How will these tools benefit employees and students?
- LFCC’s enrollment has increased nearly 15 percent from spring 2009 to spring 2010. It is imperative that, as enrollment continues to increase, LFCC employees are able to respond to the growing needs of this diverse body of students. Because these students possess varying learning styles, needs and preferences, the College must secure instructional tools to respond to and adequately address them. These unique tools will provide LFCC employees with the flexibility to design and create multimedia content, thereby customizing the classes to students’ learning preferences.
- How will these tools benefit the College and community?
- Numerous studies have concluded that the more engaged college students are in their learning, the more likely they will be to succeed in their coursework and, ultimately, graduate. Providing students with interactive activities that are both educational and entertaining will further pique their interest about the course material. As a result, they will retain more of the information than if these types of activities had not been present, thereby contributing positively to their academic success. With the majority of LFCC graduates living and working in our community, it is imperative that we continue to implement practices that will ensure their success and prepare them for the workforce.
Total investment: $11,500
