Student Support Resources
The Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) Educational Foundation Inc. is raising funds to support a deluxe muscle figure that would be used in the College’s Learning Lab. This will benefit students by providing them with a hands-on model that will augment their learning.

- What is LFCC’s Student Learning Center?
The College’s Student Learning Center, which was established in 2006, is a one-stop shop of supplemental learning opportunities for LFCC students. The Center is comprised of the Learning Lab, TRIO Student Support Services and Tutor Connection.
- The Learning Lab contains 10 state-of-the-art laptop computers that are equipped with academic software, including developmental math, English as a Second Language and computer applications and concepts software.
- The TRIO Student Support Services Program provides counseling, guidance, instructional referral and social support services targeted toward eligible students’ needs.
- Tutor Connection provides free tutoring services to LFCC students. Students are eligible to receive as many as three hours of tutoring per subject each week.
- What are the needs of LFCC’s Student Learning Center?
The Student Learning Center is in need of a deluxe muscle figure that would be used in the learning lab. The model is a three-quarter size human replica that depicts the circulatory and muscular systems in detail. There are 45 removable pieces representing the internal organs of the human body, as well as interchangeable parts that simulate both the females and male bodies.
- How will these tools benefit students and the community?
The model would be used when tutoring students enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology and Basic Human Biology. Currently, students are not able to access the muscle figures that are used in the science laboratories, and, while there is one in the library, it is in high demand. Therefore, having one in the Learning Lab that both students and tutors could regularly access would benefit pre-health professions students. Students enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology must commit numerous hours and incredible amounts of energy to study for this course. Students — especially kinesthetic learners — will benefit from the hands-on learning experience that comes from dismantling and reassembling the model. Enhancing tutoring services with this model would also benefit the community, as it would positively impact the future health professionals that are trained at LFCC.
Total investment: $6,033
