Gary Tusing
Business Instructor
- How long have you been an instructor at LFCC?
- I began employment in September 1971.
- What do you enjoy the most about being an LFCC instructor?
- Seeing the excitement in students when they understand new material, especially if they learn how to apply it to their world.
- What classes do you teach at the College?
- I mostly teach Introduction to Business. I also do training for Workforce Services and Continuing Education.
- Why do you think it is important to raise scholarship funds for students?
- Tuition is increasing and the economy is making it more difficult for students and families to fully foot the bill for an education even at a community college.
- What are the biggest changes you have seen at LFCC during your tenure?
- The overall growth of the VCCS generally and LFCC specifically — growing from about 500 students to over 7,500. From one building to three campuses/centers with multiple buildings. The change from the quarter system to the semester system. The growth in programs, especially health professions. The changes in instructional methodologies from no computers at all to total dependence on computers — sort of blackboard with chalk to electronic Blackboard.
- What degrees do you hold?
- A Bachelor’s of Science in Business Education from James Madison University, a Master’s of Science in Business Education from James Madison University and a certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Community College Administration and Education from Virginia Tech.
