Ramon Selove
Biology Instructor
- How long have you been an instructor at LFCC?
- This is my 20th year at LFCC.
- What do you enjoy the most about being an LFCC instructor?
- Teaching is my passion. I love the subject of anatomy and physiology, and I love to share it with students who are interested in it. And, who wouldn't be interested in the human body? We've all got one and the more you know about it, the more interesting and fun your body can be. I have the distinct privilege of teaching the most motivated and hardest working group of students on this or any campus.
- What classes do you teach at the College?
- I teach Bio 100 - this is a one semester introduction to human anatomy and physiology. I also teach Bio 141-142, which is a more in-depth two-semester human anatomy and physiology course that includes a lab.
- Why do you think it is important to raise scholarship funds for students?
- There are many students that are capable of learning the information and skills to serve our community in nursing and other medical professions. And once they do, they make good money and contribute in important ways to the northern Shenandoah Valley. But many cannot afford to get started. I think that those who make a good living because of efforts and investment of the commonwealth of Virginia and LFCC have a moral obligation to help others follow in their path. Donating to student scholarship funds is a great way of saying "thank you" to the staff, professors and the taxpayers of the commonwealth for their investment in your education.
- What are the biggest changes you have seen at LFCC during your tenure?
- I was hired at LFCC to teach anatomy and physiology as part of a new joint venture with Shenandoah University's Associates Degree in Nursing Program. Before I arrived, there really was no health professions program. We eventually started the Licensed Practical Nursing Program and then took over the whole Associate Degree in Nursing Program. We added Dental, Surgical, and Emergency Medical Technician Programs. Today, I think of the health professions as the flagship of the college. And I’m proud to have played a part in its development.
- What degrees do you hold?
- Certificate in Ceramic Arts from LFCC, a bachelor’s in biology from George Mason University and a master’s in zoology from The Ohio State University.
