Funding Priorities
The College is fortunate to have the support of the LFCC Educational Foundation Inc., which raises funds for mission-critical College projects that are not funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Despite the fact that LFCC is a state-assisted institution, state funds provided only 59 percent of the College’s budget in 2007-08. Consequently, private investments are essential to the future of the College and the community. That is why we are turning to our community members. After all, there is no greater return on investment than contributing to your community’s college and, ultimately, your community.
The Foundation is committed to raising more than $510,000 during 2009 – which is a 5-percent increase from the amount raised last year – for the critical initiatives listed below.

Please note: The “total investment” is the amount needed to make each project a reality. However, funds in any amount can be contributed toward these initiatives.
Scholarship Funds
Emergency Scholarships
Provide scholarship funds to LFCC students to be used immediately and in the event of an emergency
Total investment: $10,000 (20 scholarships at $500 each)
Locality-Based Scholarships
Provide scholarship funds that are awarded to students who reside in the localities for which the scholarships are named
Total investment: $40,000 ($5,000 for each scholarship)
Career Switchers Scholarships
Fund scholarship funds for students who will become teachers by completing an accelerated certification program
Total investment: $35,000
Two-Year Scholarships
Fund scholarships that allow LFCC students to complete their associate degree at LFCC without interruptions
Total investment: $125,000
Nursing Program
Fund equipment, instructional software, training, and the salary for a nursing retention specialist for LFCC’s Nursing Program
Total investment: $33,000
Early Childhood Education Programs
Fund the development of degree and certificate programs in early childhood education
Total investment: $5,000
Basketball Teams
Provide funds to help cover the expenses associated with establishing men’s and women’s basketball teams at LFCC
Total investment: $4,420
